John Stroud is a native Texan, born in Dallas and raised out in the West Texas oil patch around the town of Abilene. He attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth where he earned a Bachelor degree and completed coursework for a Master of Science in Geology. From 1994-98 he worked as a contract geologist for American Cometra and Union Pacific Resources in Fort Worth, Texas. During that time he was an integral part of the Canyon/Penn Sands Asset Development Team as well as assisting in horizontal well development in the Strawn and Ellenburger fields throughout the Permian Basin. In 1998 he joined Merit Energy Company as 1 of 2 geologists and began exploiting the companies numerous assets ranging in area from Permian Basin oil fields and Bend Conglomerate gas plays to East Texas Cotton Valley and Wyoming’s Big Horn Basin waterfloods. While at Merit he has helped grow the company which now operates in 14 different states and has the designation of being the largest oil producers in Michigan and the second largest oil producer in Wyoming. In 2002 John was promoted to North Division Exploitation Manager, directing both reservoir engineers and geologist in the development of projects within the Division. These projects include CO2 expansions, infill drilling programs and conformance projects in the Lost Soldier, Wertz and Rangely enhanced oil recovery projects, initiation of CO2 flooding operations in Michigan’s Niagaran Reef Trend along with countless other projects in both conventional and unconventional plays throughout Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, North Dakota and Michigan. In 2008 John was promoted to Corporate Exploitation Manager expanding his responsibilities to include Merit’s entire asset base in the Continental United States and Canada. He has been married for 12 years to his wife Susan and has three wonderful children, Grace (6), Sophie (4) and Luke (2).
