Description:
This method involves the chemical treatment of the reservoir rock immediately surrounding a well, the overall objective being to modify the wettability of the reservoir rock to a more water-wet state and thus to produce additional oil via spontaneous imbibition. Because the method can be applied to single wells it is relatively low cost.
Benefits to producers:
A successful application provides a low cost production enhancement process suitable for use at small to large scale oil fields. The technique is mostly envisioned to provide a production enhancement opportunity for small producers with limited investment capabilities.
EORI activities:
The EORI is in the initial stages of planning of a pilot study investigating the suitability of the method in Wyoming. Furthermore, expertise exists within the EORI for testing and optimizing surfactant selection.
