Description:
After conducting sufficient technical screening of the reservoir the economic feasibility of a proposed EOR program is assessed with a scoping model. This is a numerical tool which incorporates both the physical characteristics of the reservoir but also economic parameters including CO2 unit cost, the distance from pipelines (and the consequent cost of connecting to the pipeline system), the price of oil and the desired rate of return. The objective of the scoping tool is to build on the results of the reservoir screening and potentially eliminate from consideration any reservoirs that are demonstrably uneconomic from an EOR perspective.
Benefits to producers:
Use of the scoping model represents a further step in a process of risk reduction associated with deciding whether or not to proceed with a EOR project. By using the screening model an operator is able to judge quickly and efficiently the economic feasibility of an EOR method in any field-reservoir combination.
EORI activities:
The EORI has built a scoping tool which is ready to be applied. Already, several scoping analyses have been conducted for external parties.
